A stay in the Caorle area also allows you to discover the historical wealth of Concordia Sagittaria, located only 20 km away and easily accessible by bus from Caorle. An ancient Paleovenetian centre, it became a Roman colony in 42 B.C. as Iulia Concordia. In the 3rd century AD, with the barbarian invasions, it became a military stronghold. Medieval monuments include the Romanesque-Byzantine Baptistery and the bell tower. The archaeological tour starts at the Municipal Palace in Via Roma and leads to Roman and medieval remains, including mosaics, theatres, and the Via Annia. The route concludes with the Baptistery, rich in original frescoes, and the Museo Concordiese di Portogruaro, which can be reached by bicycle along the Lemene river or by ATVO Line 2 bus. Concordia Sagittaria is also a very picturesque and cosy town.
