Dorsoduro: the Venetians’ sestiere

From Piazzale Roma to Campo Santa Margherita, Campo San Barnaba, Campo San Trovaso, along the Zattere to the Church of Santa Maria della Salute.

Getting lost in these ‘campi’ will immerse you in authentic Venetian life. You will meet people shopping, sipping coffee or shopping in front of a boat selling fruit in Campo San Barnaba.

After crossing the ‘sotoportego’ and the ‘ponte delle Meraviglie’ (bridge of wonders), turn right to cross the San Trovaso bridge, where you can admire the last squero still in operation for building gondolas and other boats.

Continuing along the fondamenta delle Zattere, you will enjoy a magnificent view of the island of Giudecca and San Giorgio Maggiore. If you wish, you can extend the itinerary to the beautiful Church of Santa Maria della Salute.
